The truth about the Silver Labrador myth Pure Labradors are capable of producing three colors - black, yellow and chocolate. Yellows can range from light to dark. They are incapable of producing silver, or any color other than black, yellow or chocolate. Silver "Labradors" come from a combination of two different breeds, usually Lab and Weimaraner. It is very easy to obtain AKC papers and even pedigrees proclaiming this mixed breed to be an authentic Labrador, as AKC papers are based on an honor system. Don't buy the breeder's story that silver is a variant of chocolate. Silvers typically have wiry hair, light eyes, and a tendency to bite the hand that feeds them when one least expects it. Breeders are charging thousands of dollars for these dogs. Many are euthanized due to their unpredictable nature. Bottom line: "Silver Labradors" are not pure Labradors, and are not good with children.
